"...The reddened pouting lips, the body as thin as a praying mantis on a diet, and her flesh like white bacon."
Montag was talking about the appearance of Mildred when she was sleeping. He labeled her like a devoid bug.
"...The firehouse trembled as a great flight of jet planes whistled a single not across the black morning sky"
Montag and the rest of the firehouse crew had the radio on while playing Poker. The radio said war may be declared at any hour while the jets soar over the firehouse. Everyone stands still and disregards it. -Tea
"....the firehouse trembled as a great flight of jet planes whistled a single note across the black morning sky."
This is when montag is in the firehouse when the jets whistled through the sky and it seems that nobody is paying any notice to it. Its like everyone is brain washed and nobody cares and in the picture there is a jet flying in the sky and everyone is going about there own business.
Image three: “A radio hummed somewhere’…war may be declared any hour. This country stands ready to defend its… The firehouse trembled as a great flight of jet planes whistled a single note across the black morning sky.” (Page 32-33) This quotation matches the image because in the image it is all black, with a black jet plane flying overhead. The quotation explains exactly what the image is about. After this quote Montag and the fire men just carry on with there card game. This shows how society couldn’t care less about the world around them and what goes on around them.
Image two: “I’m antisocial they say. I don’t mix.” This is Clarisse talking to Montag on the street. This matches the picture because it’s like the government doesn’t what her to talk to people. This is important because it shows that people who think for themselves are considered different and are sent to therapy.
"...The reddened pouting lips, the body as thin as a praying mantis on a diet, and her flesh like white bacon."
Montag is looking over Mildred before he goes to sleep. He realizes that mabye he isn't in love. He describes her as lean. white, with red lips sleeping soundly
"...The reddened pouting lips, the body as thin as a praying mantis on a diet, and her flesh like white bacon."
This is when montag was talking about the appearance of mildred when she is sleeping and then say something about bacon. The white bacon represents mildreds skin
“On the front porch where she had come to weigh them quietly with her eyes, her quietness a condemnation, the woman stood motionless.” Page 39. This relates to the picture because this woman is obviously silent, and she seems to be considering something, like who taped her mouth. Or maybe it is her free will to be silent. She is like the woman who was burned with her books. This woman is significant to the novel because this lady is the one that made Montag see that what he was doing, and what the other firemen are doing, is wrong.
“Her hair burnt by chemicals to a brittle straw, her eyes with a kind of cataract unseen but suspect far behind the pupils, the reddened pouting lips, the body as thin as a praying mantis from dieting, and her flesh like white bacon.” Page 48. This relates to the picture because this picture shows white bacon. It is important to the novel because it shows how unhealthy Mildred is, and that she must spend a lot of time inside because her skin is so white. You also know that many other women look like this because Mildred always follows the crowd.
“Mildred’s hand had frozen behind the pillow. Her fingers were tracing the books outline and as the shape became familiar her face looked surprised and then stunned. Her mouth open to ask the question…” This quotation fits the second picture because the woman in the picture has her mouth taped and her facial expression is frozen and full of thought. The woman in this picture could be representing Mildred. She has just figured out that Montag has a book under his pillow. At this point, she may feel like she has no voice, she cannot say anything. Speechless. This is significant to the novel because Montag has broken the law. Montag wants to think.
“Sometimes think drivers don’t know what grass is, or flowers, because they never see them slowly.” This quotation fits the third picture because I see rush, overcrowding and carelessness in this picture. Drivers don’t even know what grass is they rush and go too fast. The quotation fits this picture and it is significant to the story because it shows how different their world is.
"...The reddened pouting lips, the body as thin as a praying mantis after dieting, and her flesh like white bacon." Page 48
In the novel, Montag was thinking about the appearance of his wife, Mildred. He described her as a hideous creature rather than a beautiful human. This is significant because Montag is realizing that he never saw beauty or intellingence in Mildred.
"He felt that the stars had been pulverized by the sound of black jets..." Page 14
Montag is about to phone an ambulance because Mildred has overdosed on sleeping pills. This quote is significant because Montag is saying 'the stars were pulverized', like all that was good or worthwhile was lost. As there was a chance of Mildred dieing, Mildred could be the 'star'.
Picture # 2 “’What’s this’ asked Mildred”(56) This quote relates to the picture because this happens when Mildred has just found the book Montag is hiding. Montag did not want any one to know about so he had to keep his mouth closed. This lady in the picture is not allowed to say anything for some reason just like Montag. Mildred now has to keep her mouth closed to now that she knows about the book too. This is significant to the novel because it shows that Montag has wanted to read but he knows that it has to be a secret. Picture #3 “The jet bombers going over” (13-14) This quote relates to the picture because this happens when Mildred has taken too many pills and the jets are going over the city even though no one cares. The image shows a plane going over a city on a dark grey night and that is exactly what happened in the book at this point. It looks like the plane might be there in the picture for the same reason it was there in the book. This is significant to the novel because no one even took notice of the jet bombers when they were passing over. This shows just how oblivious everyone in the community is to everything that happens. By Sophia
Picture 2: “Any man’s insane if he thinks he can fool the government and us.” (33) I think this quote relates to the picture [of the girl with the tape over her mouth] because anybody he tries to fool or speak against the government is considered crazy and taken to the asylum. The girl has tape over her mouth which probably means she cannot speak. This is identical to the novel because nobody is allowed to speak about the government in a bad way. This quote is significant to the novel because it tells me that many people must feel that the government is not right, but does not want to be taken away. Picture 3: “The jet bombers going over…” (13-14) This quote relates to the image because there is a jet hovering over the city. I think this is significant to the novel because it tells me that people need to be on guard about war. It tells me that perhaps people need to be careful because there is a war about to or is going on. By Shay
task 2 "What this here?"(53) this relates to the novel because montag has to keep his mouth shut or mildread will find out that he is reading. also montag will get fired from his job and will get reprted to the police and go to jail. This is sighnifagant to the novel because he will break the law and go to jail. By:Kylie
task 2 picture3 " the bell in the ceiling kicked itself two hundread times. Suddenly four empty chairs." this relates to the picture because there are the fire trucks rushing to the ladies house to burn al of her books. this relates to the novel because this is when Montag gets the book from the lady. (the picture before was picture 2) By: Kylie

-Tea P.S. Delete the other one!
monatge is talking about when mildred is sleeping and he is standing over her looking at her and he says that she is like a devoid bug.
1. “Now Beatty was almost invisible, a voice somewhere behind a screen of smoke.” (Pg. 56).
Beatty is smoking his pipe. I think this is symbolic because Beatty is Montag’s Captain.
2. “Mildred backed away as if she were confronted by a pack of mice that had come out of the floor.” (Pg. 66)
Montag has just showed her his stash of 20 books. She is so shocked that she cannot speak.
